The Berchtesgaden National Park is the second oldest (1 August 1978) and only Alpine National Park in Germany. The area covers around 210 km² with an altitude amplitude of 2,110 m (Königssee 603 m above sea level, Watzmann 2,713 m above sea level). The large number of different habitats leads to a high diversity of species, which must be discovered in a nature-friendly way. The primary goal is the protection of nature, true to the guiding principle "Let nature be nature".
