Barneführer Holz Und Schreensmoor

Nature Reserve

Germany - Niedersachsen

Area: 2.38km²

The protected commercial forest “Barneführer Holz” lies to the north along the Hunte, which is visually very appealing and very attractive for those seeking recreation. Like “Tannersand and Gierenberg”, this nature reserve is part of the larger Osenberge forest area. The wet meadows of the Schreensmoor have a special ecological value for this nature reserve. At the hunting lodge stands the oldest Douglas fir on European soil. The seeds probably originate from the first seeds brought to Europe from America by the man who gave the tree its name, David Douglas. Compared to the straightened sections in the upper and lower flows, the Hunte here is relatively natural. The purpose of the protection is to preserve the forest for recreational purposes due to its special character, outstanding beauty, tranquillity and undisturbed nature. At the same time, the “Barneführer Holz und Schreensmoor” nature reserve is of outstanding importance for science, nature and local history.
