The Rhine Delta is one of the most important wetlands in Central Europe. Natural floodplain forests, wet meadows, and reed beds along the shores provide habitats for an exceptionally diverse flora and fauna. More than 600 different flowering plants, 700 species of butterflies, and 300 bird species have been recorded in the area.
