The Ahlbecker Seegrund nature reserve, a former lake basin, is now a valuable calc-rich mesotrophic fen, a type rarely found in this specific form. This unique wetland serves as an essential water reservoir for the dry Ueckermünder Heide. It is a sanctuary for a rich and diverse array of fascinating flora and fauna, holding considerable scientific interest. Among the protected inhabitants are birds like the Hen Harrier, Montagu's Harrier, Crane, Great Bittern, Common Snipe, Savi's Warbler, and Barred Warbler.
