The Selzniederung nature reserve serves to preserve and develop an ecologically valuable area with near-natural streams, ditches and woodlands, including pollarded trees. It comprises reed beds, wet fallow land, wet grassland and arable land, and orchards, which provide habitats for rare plant and animal species. The area is part of a networked biotope system in the Selz catchment area.
