Nature Reserve

Nature reserves constitute one of the most important conservation categories in Germany and Austria. The exact definitions vary, but together they combine the conservation of natural landscape, the protection of endangered species and the preservation for scientific interests.

Der „Auerberg bei Schwarz“ ist ein reines Waldgebiet, gelegen auf einer Hügelkuppe mit basalthaltigem Untergrundgestein, welches Stellenweise an der Oberfläche zu großen Schuttblöcken verwitterte. Das Gebiet zeichnet sich durch seine baumartenreichen Laubwaldbestände mit großem Alt- und Totholzanteil aus. Dies macht den Wald zu einem besonders schützenswerten Lebensraum für zahlreiche, vor allem höhlenbrütende und höhlenbewohnende Vogelarten, aber auch für viele Insektenlebensgemeinschaften.
