Beketal Nature Reserve protects the unspoiled valley of the Kleine Beke stream. Its steep banks, gravel bars, and old-growth forests support diverse flora and fauna, making it a valuable natural landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The Beketal Nature Reserve safeguards the pristine valley of the Kleine Beke stream in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This unique landscape is characterized by its dynamic natural flow, featuring steep eroded banks, gentle depositional slopes, and shifting gravel bars. These diverse geomorphological structures, along with scour pools and mature old-growth forests bordering the stream, create a mosaic of habitats crucial for a wide array of specialized animal and plant species. The primary objective is to maintain the valley's undisturbed character, ensuring the continued survival of its rich biodiversity. The area's natural state, vital for ecological processes, is generally good, despite occasional nutrient inputs from surrounding agricultural land after heavy rainfall. Beketal also forms part of the larger FFH-Gebiet Beketal mit Zuflüssen, underscoring its European ecological significance.
