The Binnensalzwiese bei Sülten is Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's largest inland salt marsh. Saline groundwater emerges here, creating a rare habitat for specialized plants like Scurvygrass and Broad-leaved Marsh-orchid.
The Binnensalzwiese bei Sülten is a unique nature reserve characterized by the surfacing of saline groundwater – a rare phenomenon far from the coast. These specific conditions create a valuable habitat for salt-tolerant plants. In early summer, large stands of Scurvygrass and Broad-leaved Marsh-orchid can be admired here. The protected area is an integral part of the Sternberger Seenland Nature Park and the Binnensalzwiese bei Sülten FFH area. Its purpose is to preserve, develop, and care for Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's largest inland salt marsh and its special flora and fauna, which have adapted to the salty conditions.
