Böllenwörth Nature Reserve features floodplain forests, litter meadows, and old Rhine remnants. It provides a vital habitat for rare plant and animal species within the Rhine's flood zone.
The Böllenwörth Nature Reserve, located in the Rhein-Pfalz-Kreis, is a valuable natural area along the Rhine. It preserves a diverse landscape including floodplain forests, which are partly situated within the natural flood zone of the Rhine. Characteristic features also include species-rich litter meadows, remnants of old Rhine arms, and other temporary water bodies. These distinct habitats collectively form an essential sanctuary and site for numerous rare plant and animal species. The eastern boundary of the reserve is naturally defined by the Rhine itself. The conservation of this riparian landscape significantly contributes to the preservation of biodiversity in the region and maintains a dynamic ecosystem.
