Brooksee nature reserve protects a re-wetted depression vital for waterfowl. Black-headed Gulls nest here, creating a safe haven for other breeding birds. An observation hide offers views.
The Brooksee nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern safeguards a valuable re-wetted water depression. This dynamic wetland serves as an essential habitat for numerous waterfowl species. The unique water conditions actively prevent the islands within the lake from becoming overgrown with trees, fostering the ideal environment for large colonies of Black-headed Gulls. These thriving gull colonies, in turn, provide natural protection for various other waterfowl, which choose to breed safely within their midst. The area's excellent ecological condition highlights its importance for regional biodiversity. While there are no public paths directly within the reserve, a well-situated observation hide on the eastern bank offers excellent opportunities to respectfully observe the diverse birdlife and appreciate the natural beauty of this protected landscape.
