Dortebachtal near Klotten is a fascinating nature reserve that has been protected since 1930. It is characterized by its alpine-like erosion landscape and stretches along the Dortebach stream, a northern tributary of the Moselle. The valley opens up to the south between two striking rock heads and offers visitors an impressive natural experience. The valley is home to a remarkable flora and fauna, which is favored by a special microclimate. Species from the Mediterranean, the Black Sea, the Atlantic and the Alps can be found here. Highlights include the Apollo butterfly from the Alps, the endangered green lizard with its bright blue throat and the rare white diptam, a medicinal plant whose flowers can self-ignite at high temperatures.
