The Dünenkiefernwald am Langhagensee preserves an open juniper-pine forest on an inland dune in the Wooster Heide. This unique forest landscape is maintained through grazing and provides a habitat for rare species.
The Dünenkiefernwald am Langhagensee protected area is situated on the southern shore of Lake Langhagensee within the Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide Nature Park. It safeguards a culturally significant and ecologically valuable open juniper-pine forest. This distinctive forest thrives on a rare inland dune found in the Wooster Heide. The forest's unique structure is the result of centuries of grazing, a practice still carefully applied today for landscape management to preserve its special character. The area is also part of a European Habitats Directive (FFH) and Bird Protection Area, making a crucial contribution to the conservation of rare habitats and their native plant and animal species. Here, nature and historical land use harmoniously converge.
