Description

The Durchbruchstal der Warnow und Mildenitz nature reserve, located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, preserves a remarkable landscape shaped by the confluence of the Warnow and Mildenitz rivers. This area features one of the largest breakthrough valleys in the region, characterized by its striking geological formations. A significant three-kilometer stretch of the river remains unaltered by hydraulic engineering, offering a rare glimpse into a naturally flowing waterway. Complementing the riverine ecosystem are the rich mixed forests thriving on the steep adjacent slopes, contributing to the area's significant biodiversity. This reserve provides crucial habitats for various species, including the freshwater pearl mussel (Bachmuschel). Its designation as part of the 'Warnowtal mit kleinen Zuflüssen' FFH area underscores its European importance for nature conservation. The natural processes and ecological integrity of this valley are central to its protected status.
