The protected area serves to preserve and develop an ecologically significant area of the Selz lowlands. It comprises a near-natural stream, reed-rich ditches and copses, including pollarded trees, as well as hay meadows with tall forb communities and reed beds. The area also includes permanently moist arable land, which serves as a habitat for typical and rare wild plant species. These areas provide habitats and important biotopes for typical and rare animal species whose populations are threatened.
