The Selzniederung nature reserve encompasses a near-natural area with streams, ditches and various wetlands such as reed beds and wet meadows. The area is an important habitat for over forty species of breeding birds, including rare species such as the little grebe and marsh harrier. It also serves as a spawning ground for numerous fish and amphibians, underscoring the success of the ecological restoration.
