The Devin Peninsula Nature Reserve on the Strelasund protects a valuable treeless moraine landscape. This special terrain is characterized by a variety of rare habitats: small bodies of water, nutrient-poor bogs, and species-rich lean grasslands shape the scenery, sloping steeply down to the shore. The protection aims to permanently preserve this landscape with its specialized plant and animal communities. The open land areas are crucial for the survival of rare amphibians, insects, and plants that have adapted to these specific conditions. Traditional care practices like grazing and mowing maintain the characteristic open nature of the area. The Devin Peninsula offers insights into a unique natural and cultural landscape, resulting from natural processes and centuries of land use. It is an important refuge for endangered species and an impressive example of the coastal landscapes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
