The large still water body forms an important habitat for amphibians and waterfowl.
The Hellersberger Weiher is one of the largest still waters in the district of Bad Kreuznach and plays an important role as a habitat and stepping stone for amphibians and waterfowl. Since the 2000s, however, problems have repeatedly arisen due to low water levels. While the water is still relatively high in spring, the level drops sharply in autumn due to the dense cattail growth, meaning that there are no longer any open water areas.
