The Selzniederung nature reserve serves to preserve and develop an ecologically valuable area with near-natural streams and ditches. It comprises woodlands, reed beds, wet fallow land and tall forb communities, as well as near-natural embankments. These areas provide habitats for rare plant and animal species and serve as resting and wintering places. The area is part of a networked biotope system in the Selz catchment area.
