Insel Koos, Kooser See, and Wampener Riff is a significant nature reserve located in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's southern Greifswald Bodden. Its primary purpose is to preserve the extensive coastal flood and shallow water areas, which are shaped by natural coastal dynamics. The reserve encompasses diverse habitats, including shallow water zones, unique wind-tidal flats, and grazed coastal flood marshes. These varied environments provide a crucial home for a multitude of coastal bird species. Notably, the Karrendorfer Wiesen within the area have undergone a natural restoration since the removal of dikes in the 1990s, allowing them to thrive organically again. This protected landscape offers a glimpse into a dynamic coastal ecosystem, supporting rich biodiversity, especially for feathered inhabitants.
