Kleiner Krebssee, a nature reserve in Usedom Nature Park, formed in a glacier basin. Once a clearwater lake, it now shows signs of eutrophication. Observe its natural setting from the western forest path.
The Kleiner Krebssee nature reserve is located within the Usedom Island Nature Park, southwest of Bansin. This unique lake occupies a glacier tongue basin, nestled within the push moraine ridge stretching between Bansin and Benz, showcasing the region's glacial past. Historically, it was a nutrient-poor clearwater lake, a valuable habitat type. Unfortunately, past wastewater input and fish production have led to eutrophication, altering its original character. Despite these changes, the area remains a significant protected landscape. Visitors can experience the natural setting and observe the lake's environment from a dedicated forest path along its western edge, providing insights into this dynamic ecosystem.
