It is distinguished by its varied and unspoiled natural environment. This area presents an impressive cliff coast, rising majestically above the sea, alongside extensive dunes and ancient beach ridges. A unique feature is the Harkenbäk, a natural stream that meanders undisturbed through the landscape before flowing into the Baltic Sea. The reserve also encompasses valuable moors and several small lakes, including the Deipsee.
