The main protective purpose is the preservation of the two parts of the area · as a diverse mosaic of raised and transitional moors, fens, wet meadows, bristle grass lawns and other biotopes; · as habitats for numerous rare and endangered animal and plant species; · as objects important for science - especially moorland research.
