The protection serves to preserve the Lehrenkopf due to its special geology, rare plant species and unique landscape.
Lehrenkopf is a nature reserve in the district of Ahrweiler in northern Rhineland-Palatinate. It covers around 35 hectares and is located in the municipal areas of Kempenich (to the east and north of the district of Engeln) and Brenk (to the west and south of the district of Fußhölle). The area is named after the 496 metre high Lehrenkopf mountain, which lies to the east of Engeln. The aim of the protection is to conserve the Lehrenkopf for scientific and regional reasons. This includes its special geological composition, the habitat of rare and endangered wild plant species and plant communities as well as its scenic beauty and uniqueness.
