Müllenbachtal - Kaulenbachtal

Nature Reserve

Description & Map

The Müllenbachtal/Kaulenbachtal nature reserve is located in the district of Cochem-Zell in Rhineland-Palatinate and extends across the districts of Alflen, Büchel, Laubach and Müllenbach. It covers an area of around 165 hectares

The area is characterised by deeply incised, sometimes rugged stream valleys with varied vegetation. The valley sides are predominantly covered with deciduous and mixed forests, while dry forests, rock dump forests and coppice forests can be found on steep and sun-exposed slopes. The valley bottoms and areas close to streams are characterised by grassland, wet and damp meadows and remnants of orchards. The former spoil heaps and tunnels now provide ideal habitats for heat-loving wall lizards and various bat species, which find safe winter quarters in the tunnels
