The Mußbacher Baggerweiher near Neustadt an der Weinstraße is a former gravel pit that has developed into a biodiverse nature reserve. Today, it provides important habitats for rare waterbirds, amphibians, and insects in a landscape of wetlands, reed beds, and open water. Access to the protected area is strictly prohibited to prevent disturbance to the sensitive wildlife. However, observation points along nearby cycling and hiking trails offer fascinating views of this unique natural refuge.
