The Neuhofener Woog nature reserve in Rheinland-Pfalz preserves a significant former oxbow lake. Established in 1999, this area is protected to maintain its remarkable diversity of habitats. It features near-natural forest stands, including successional stages like black alder bog forest and black alder-ash swamp forest. The landscape also features extensive wet and moist meadows, complemented by dense sedge and reed communities. Furthermore, the reserve encompasses natural still and flowing waters, along with characteristic individual trees and hedges. The primary purpose of the Neuhofener Woog is to safeguard these species-rich biotopes and the flora and fauna that thrive within them.
