Description
The Blumenstein Nature Reserve, located north of Brilon, is part of the significant 'Kalkkuppen' (limestone hills) group in the region. It safeguards a diverse biotope mosaic comprising extensively managed calcareous grasslands, hedges, and field groves. These varied structures provide crucial habitats for numerous, partly rare and endangered animal and plant species. The area is essential for the regional ecological network and contributes significantly to the European Natura 2000 protected area system. Traditional grassland use is preserved and promoted here to secure the high ecological potential of this special place long-term. The reserve also includes parts of the "Großer Blumenstein" and "Kleiner Blumenstein" hilltops.
