Dinkelaue with Oldemölls Venneken protects a diverse river floodplain along the Dinkel. It's home to rare wading and meadow birds like curlews and godwits, plus vital wet grasslands with unique plant communities.
The Dinkelaue with Oldemölls Venneken nature reserve safeguards a rich river floodplain landscape stretching along the Dinkel. It features expansive wet and damp grasslands, open water bodies, natural riparian forests, and wet meadows. This diverse mosaic provides irreplaceable habitats for rare and highly endangered wading and meadow birds, including the Eurasian Curlew, Black-tailed Godwit, and Reed Warbler. The area is a crucial breeding, resting, and overwintering ground for these avian species. Additionally, the reserve protects unique plant communities, dwarf shrub and juniper heaths, sandy grasslands, and heath ponds. It holds outstanding importance as a regionally significant aquatic corridor within the state-wide biotope network. Preserving the natural geomorphology and typical soil structures ensures the natural water balance, contributing to the conservation of the scientific, natural, and geo-historical values of this landscape.
