Description

The "Ehemalige Siegschleife bei Dreisel" nature reserve preserves a richly structured valley area along the former course of the Sieg river and its meander core (Umlaufberg). It protects diverse habitats, including moist to swampy grasslands, lean meadows, alder and oak forests, shrubs, reed beds, and spring areas. These varied biotopes form an important network and serve as refuges for numerous threatened plant and animal species. Specialized plants of moist and lean sites thrive here, alongside a rich insect, amphibian, and bird fauna. Of particular significance are the Great Burnet and Sanguisorba officinalis meadows, as well as rare butterfly species like the Dusky Large Blue and the Scarce Large Blue. The area holds high natural historical and scientific importance as a testament to the former river course and due to its rare butterfly populations. Its unique character and outstanding beauty shape the landscape.
