Description
The Ermberg Nature Reserve safeguards a valuable landscape, crucial for the preservation of several animal and plant species listed as endangered. This area is a significant biotope complex featuring rare habitat types such as species-rich mountain meadows and precious calcareous grasslands. It represents a large, structurally diverse grassland area of high cultural and ecological importance, also recognized for its scientific and natural historical value. As a Natura 2000 site, Ermberg is vital for Europe's ecological network. It protects and fosters characteristic orchid-rich Bromus-Festuca calcareous grasslands (a priority habitat), tall oat grass and Sanguisorba officinalis meadows, calcareous rocky slopes with unique chasmophytic vegetation, and open pioneer grasslands on calcareous substrates (another priority habitat), all contributing to the region's biodiversity.
