Description
The NSG Guenninghauser Mark is a significant natural area in the Sauerland, part of the European Natura 2000 network. It features a rich mosaic of ancient, well-structured beech and gorge forests alongside open grasslands, natural springs, and flowing waters. This diverse landscape is vital for numerous rare and endangered animal and plant species, including the Boreal Owl and Black Woodpecker. The reserve protects extensive, high-lying, quiet, and largely untouched deciduous forests, including important Hainsimsen-Buchenwälder and Schlucht- und Hangmischwälder. Additionally, you'll find species-rich Borstgrasrasen and mountain hay meadows, contributing to its unique biodiversity. It is a key area for maintaining ecological coherence.
