Description
The Hederaue with Thüler Moorkomplex in North Rhine-Westphalia is a vital nature reserve preserving a rich mosaic of habitats. It protects extensive moist and lean grasslands, oxbow lakes, wet tall herb communities, and unique submerged vegetation in the Heder and its tributaries. Significant are calcareous fens, purple moor-grass meadows, and species-rich low-land hay meadows, alongside alder-ash and soft-wood alluvial forests. This area is crucial for rare and endangered plant and animal species, including a diverse bird population. It provides essential breeding and feeding grounds for wading and meadow birds like the Eurasian Curlew, Common Snipe, and Northern Lapwing, as well as raptors such as Red and Black Kites, and the Kingfisher along the Heder. The reserve maintains the natural character of its flowing waters, supporting unique ecosystems and contributing to the region's natural heritage and beauty.
