Description

The NSG Mittellauf der Bega is dedicated to preserving and restoring a nationally significant, near-natural river landscape. This area, encompassing the Bega river, its riparian forests, diverse grasslands, and swamp forests, serves as a crucial habitat and biotope corridor. It provides a vital refuge for numerous rare and endangered wild plant and animal species within the Lipper Bergland. Protected features include natural flowing and standing waters, wet and moist grasslands, and various near-natural forest types. The reserve is especially important for endangered plants such as Bladder Sedge, Star Duckweed, River Water-crowfoot, and Wych Elm. Beyond flora, it's a valuable home for meadow birds, cavity nesters, butterflies, and amphibians. The area’s unique natural beauty and its contribution to regional biodiversity make it a significant natural heritage site, also offering insights for scientific and ecological study.
