Summary
The Odeborn Valley Nature Reserve protects a valuable meadow valley system with mountain hay meadows, wet pastures, and natural streams. It's a habitat for rare plants, Meadow Pipits, and Snipes, and a key part of the Natura 2000 network.
Description
The Odeborn Valley Nature Reserve safeguards a diverse and species-rich meadow valley system of high ecological value. It features extensive mountain hay meadows, species-rich Avenula and Silaum meadows, and valuable Nardus grasslands, all maintained through extensive traditional use. Natural flowing waters with their unique underwater vegetation are also characteristic of the area. The forested spring regions complement this mosaic of habitats, which further includes dry heaths and Luzula beech forests. This rich diversity provides crucial protection for numerous plant species and animals. The valley is a significant refuge for the Meadow Pipit and the Snipe, which find ideal conditions in the spring-fed wet pastures. Preserving this biotope mosaic greatly contributes to the regional landscape diversity and ensures the implementation of the European Natura 2000 protected area system. This area exemplifies successful nature conservation, sustaining and protecting traditional grassland use.
