Description

The Orketal Nature Reserve protects a richly structured low mountain range meadow valley. It features natural stream courses, narrow riparian gallery forests of alder, ash, and willow, and species-rich tall oat grass and great burnet meadows. These diverse grassland habitats, along with the flowing waters and their underwater vegetation, create an outstanding refuge and networking biotope. The Orketal is a vital habitat for the kingfisher and other endangered bird species, providing essential feeding grounds. As a central component of the "Waldreservat Glindfeld-Orketal" FFH area and the European Bird Sanctuary Medebacher Bucht, it significantly contributes to preserving valuable habitats and species of community interest.
