Description
The Rauhe Horst – Schaeferwiesen Nature Reserve preserves an extensive, contiguous grassland complex. Characterized by varying degrees of wetness, this area is a crucial habitat for a multitude of rare and endangered bird species, especially waders and meadow birds, finding important breeding, feeding, resting, and wintering grounds here. Beyond its significance for birds, the wet grasslands, ditch reeds, riverside and field woods, tall herb communities, pollard willow stands, small water bodies, and orchards are of particular botanical value. They contribute to a rich floristic diversity. The area also serves as an important stepping stone biotope, connecting with neighboring wet meadow protected areas, thereby promoting species exchange and biotope networking in the region. Its rarity, special character, and natural beauty make it a valuable part of the landscape.
