The area located in the natural space of the "Ostfriesische Seemarsch und Inseln" comprises predominantly agricultural land, largely open and devoid of woody vegetation, with sparse human settlement. It borders directly to the north, separated only by the main dike, with the Lower Saxony Wadden Sea National Park, which in some areas transitions to a fringe of summer polders adjacent to the main dike. Overall, the bird sanctuary area V 63 stretches in a strip along the main dike from Norddeich in the west to Neuharlingersiel in the east. The young marshland near the dikes is mainly utilized as arable land, with winter cereals and winter rapeseed dominating the range of crops. Drainage ditches for parcel drainage and wide watercourses with their reed-lined edges structure the landscape. The older marshland soils, typically further away from the dike line, serve as sites for various types of grassland. Other characteristic and prominent features include the groupings on the surfaces, the reed-covered ditch network, as well as variously sized marsh waters, natural standing waters, and former clay extraction sites. The area presents itself as a large, predominantly disturbance-free, open space.
