The area of around 48 hectares was placed under nature conservation in 1986. The aim of the protection is to preserve the Rechberg with its diverse calcareous grasslands, scrubland and mixed deciduous forests. These biotopes provide a habitat for thermophilic animal and plant communities, including numerous rare and endangered species, in particular orchids and insects.
