Description & Map

Rosselhalde is a nature reserve within the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. It protects unique Taunusquarzit scree slopes and their special forest communities, including maple-lime and oak slope scree forests.

The Rosselhalde Nature Reserve is located in the Birkenfeld district, Rhineland-Palatinate, on the south-western slope towards the Idarbach stream. It forms a significant part of the Hunsrück-Hochwald National Park. This protected area is defined by its striking Taunusquarzit scree slopes, representing a unique geological formation. These specific habitats host distinctive plant communities. Among the protected ecosystems are the rare maple-lime scree forests and oak slope scree forests, which have adapted to these extreme conditions. The primary purpose of protection for this area is the preservation of these specific geotypes and their characteristic forest communities, which hold considerable ecological importance. Rosselhalde offers a glimpse into natural development and nature's adaptability to particular geological circumstances.
