Sandlache Nature Reserve in Rhineland-Palatinate protects a diverse landscape. It features water and transitional wetland areas, soft and hard wood riparian forests, and wet and dry meadows along the Alte Sandlach. A vital ecosystem.
The Sandlache Nature Reserve, located in Rhineland-Palatinate south of the Rhine and north of Ingelheim am Rhein, was designated for protection in 1979. Its primary purpose is to preserve a valuable riverine landscape along the Alte Sandlach. This area encompasses important water and transitional wetland environments, crucial for specialized plant and animal species. The landscape mosaic is further enriched by extensive soft and hard wood riparian forests, characteristic of river lowlands. Additionally, both wet and dry meadows contribute to the high biodiversity of the reserve. Sandlache represents a unique natural heritage, reflecting the original habitats of a river landscape and maintaining its ecological function for the region.
