Schachenwald

Nature Reserve

Beschreibung und Karte

The aim of the conservation status is to preserve the area with its sand dune forests and the alder swamp forests bordering it to the south. These habitats are characterized by a high level of ecological diversity, with numerous transition zones (ecotones) that provide important refuges for typical and rare wild plants as well as endangered animal species and their communities. In addition, the dunes formed by sand drifts on the red sandstone ridge, which rise about one meter above the surrounding moor, are to be preserved for reasons of natural history and regional studies.
