The Scharren nature reserve at Altenhof near Bettingen is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate. It serves to protect the Scharren and the neighbouring valuable, orchid-rich semi-dry grasslands, heat-loving scrubland and mixed forests. The aim is to preserve this habitat for rare and endangered animal and plant species, especially birds and insects.
