The aim of protection is to preserve the Keuper grasslands and calcareous grasslands with adjoining scrub and mixed woodland formations as a habitat for numerous thermophilic and highly endangered animal and plant species, in particular the Lorraine flax variant of the gentian semi-dry grassland, as well as their biocoenoses.
