Nature reserves constitute one of the most important conservation categories in Germany and Austria. The exact definitions vary, but together they combine the conservation of natural landscape, the protection of endangered species and the preservation for scientific interests.

Das Naturschutzgebiet zwischen dem Markt Wildflecken, der Gemeinde Riedenberg, dem Markt Geroda und dem Markt Burkardroth im Landkreis Bad Kissingen. Es hat eine Größe von circa 3.160 Hektar. Die Schwarzen Berge sind eine markante geologische Formation in der Region, die aus dunklem Basaltgestein besteht. Das Gebiet ist aufgrund seiner einzigartigen Landschaft und geologischen Formationen von besonderem Interesse. Die Vegetation in den Schwarzen Bergen variiert je nach Höhenlage und Bodenbeschaffenheit und umfasst eine Vielzahl von Pflanzenarten, darunter Wald- und Heidevegetation. Hier finden sich verschiedene Tierarten wie Rehe, Füchse, Greifvögel und andere Vogelarten, die den Wald und die offenen Landschaften als Lebensraum nutzen.
