The 46.2 hectare area, which was placed under nature conservation in 1987, is located in the southern and northern municipal area of Pottum. The Seebach forms the boundary here, just before it flows into the Wiesensee. The purpose of the protection is to preserve the wetland as a habitat for rare, endangered wild plants and plant communities as well as endangered animal species - and also for scientific reasons.
