Streuewiesenbiotopverbund Rheintal - Walgau

Nature Reserve

The litter meadow biotope network includes particularly valuable litter meadows in the valley areas of the Rhine Valley and the Walgau. Litter meadows are fens and are traditionally mown only once a year in autumn. This management allows plant and animal species to thrive that would not survive in intensively used agricultural grasslands. Litter meadows are of particular importance for ground-nesting bird species such as the Northern Lapwing, Eurasian Curlew, and Corncrake.
