The protected area is dedicated to the preservation and development of an oak-hornbeam forest characterized by small still waters and moist depressions. These features provide vital habitats and partial habitats for rare animals, particularly amphibians, and serve as important sites for rare plant species. Additionally, the focus is on preserving and developing semi-dry grasslands, thermophilic shrub zones, fringe habitats, and extensively managed orchards known for their species-rich animal and plant communities. The area is also protected for scientific reasons and is of great significance due to its rarity and unique characteristics in the Rhenish Hesse region.
