The Baumberg nature reserve near Wiesbaum is located in the Vulkaneifel region of Rhineland-Palatinate. It is a striking, wooded mountain range characterised by near-natural vegetation and a diverse landscape.

The Baumberg is part of the typical Eifel landscape with varied relief, dry grassland, scrub and species-rich forests. The main purpose of protection is the conservation and development of near-natural deciduous forests, especially beech forests with woodruff (Galium odoratum) and other typical herbaceous layer species. The area protects rare and endangered plant and animal species and their habitats and provides an important habitat for numerous bird species, bats and insects.
