Olbrück

Nature Reserve

Beschreibung und Karte

The Olbrück nature reserve impressively combines geological features with cultural-historical heritage and natural habitats and is characterised by the volcanic origin of the Eifel and represents a typical phonolite cone.

The striking Olbrück hill bears witness to the region's formative volcanism. The surrounding landscape is characterised by open meadows, fields and species-rich deciduous and mixed forests. The steep slopes are still partly covered with coppice forests, while dry and semi-dry grasslands predominate in dry locations. The nature reserve protects rare and endangered plant and animal species that are dependent on the special site conditions of the Eifel volcanoes. The varied landscape with meadows, pastures, forests and rocky areas provides an important habitat for numerous species - including various butterflies, birds and rare dry grassland plants.
