Wingertsberg bei Hüttingen

Nature Reserve

Description & Map

The Wingertsberg nature reserve near Hüttingen is located in the Eifel district of Bitburg-Prüm in Rhineland-Palatinate. The approximately 45.5-hectare area was declared a nature reserve in 1999 and extends along the eastern edge of Hüttingen on the Kyll river. District road 43 runs along the northern edge, with the Kyll river flowing not far to the west and south. The purpose of the conservation area is to preserve semi-arid grasslands, smooth oat meadows, orchards, abandoned limestone quarries as well as scrub and mixed deciduous forest formations as habitats for numerous thermophilic, endangered animal and plant species and their biocoenoses. In addition, the development of intensively utilised open land areas into nutrient-poor meadows is to be promoted.
